Description
Orifice meters are widely used in industrial piping systems for accurate flow measurement. However, predicting pressure drop, discharge coefficient, and flow behavior using CFD requires careful modeling, advanced meshing strategies, and proper turbulence model selection.
This course is a hands-on, advanced CFD workshop focused on the numerical simulation of an Orifice Meter using ANSYS Fluent, with validation based on ISO 5167 standards. The emphasis is not only on obtaining results, but on understanding why certain modeling choices work better than others.
You will start by setting up the geometry and boundary conditions for an Orifice Meter flow problem. The course then dives deep into advanced meshing techniques, including near-wall refinement and mesh quality improvement. A mesh independence study is performed to ensure numerical accuracy and reliability of results.
Multiple turbulence models-including SST k-ω, Realizable k-ε (RKE), and Reynolds Stress Model (RSM)-are compared in detail. You will learn why some turbulence models predict pressure drop and flow parameters more accurately for internal flows like orifice meters. Different near-wall treatments for the SST model are also analyzed.
Finally, extensive post-processing and validation are carried out using ANSYS CFD-Post and Tecplot, with direct comparison against ISO 5167 correlations.
This course is ideal for learners who want to move beyond basic CFD tutorials and gain industry-relevant, validation-focused CFD skills.
Who this course is for
Engineers, students, and researchers with basic knowledge of ANSYS Fluent and fluid mechanics.
Learners who want to master advanced CFD techniques, including meshing, turbulence modeling, and post-processing.
Professionals aiming to analyze and simulate flow in Orifice Meters or similar devices.
Anyone looking to validate CFD results and perform mesh independence studies for accurate engineering insights.
