Build the AI register, classify your systems, and close the obligations that are already enforceable today
What you'll learn
Requirements
DescriptionThe AI Act is not a future problem. Prohibited practices and the AI literacy duty have been enforceable since February 2025. Obligations for general-purpose AI models followed in August 2025. Transparency and content marking landed in August 2026. Only the heavy high-risk machinery was deferred - and even that arrives on 2 December 2027.
Most organisations are not ready. Analysis published in 2026 found that 78% had taken no meaningful steps toward compliance, more than half could not produce a basic inventory of the AI systems they operate, and 40% of assessed enterprise systems could not be cleanly classified against the risk tiers at all. The deadline moved because the ecosystem was unprepared, not because the obligations softened.
This course is built for the people who actually have to implement this - IT managers, service and platform owners, architects, risk and governance leads - not for lawyers. It treats the AI Act as what it structurally is: a product safety regulation. Conformity assessment, technical documentation, market surveillance. Engineering holds the pen; legal reviews.
You will build one artefact across all seven sections: an AI system register. It starts as eight fields in a spreadsheet and grows into a working record carrying classification reasoning, ownership, oversight metrics, risk management, evidence links and launch gates. A downloadable ten-sheet template and a fully worked example are included.
What the course covers
• Section 1 - What the Act regulates, the four operator roles, the real timeline after the Digital Omnibus, penalties and extraterritorial scope.
• Section 2 - A repeatable five-question classification procedure, all eight prohibited practices, Annex I versus Annex III, and a ten-system workshop.
• Section 3 - Four discovery sweeps that find shadow AI, register design, mapping onto a CMDB you may already run, and ownership that survives turnover.
• Section 4 - Provider obligations in depth: Article 9 risk management, Article 10 data governance, the Annex IV technical file, Article 15 accuracy and AI-specific security, the three launch gates, and keeping documentation current.
• Section 5 - Deployer obligations: human oversight that is designed rather than claimed, logging and retention, who actually owes a fundamental rights impact assessment, and the four duties to inform affected people.
• Section 6 - Article 50 transparency and content marking, general-purpose AI obligations, the fine-tuning threshold, and what the open-source exemption does and does not lift.
• Section 7 - AI literacy under Article 4, governance roles, what ISO 42001 gives you and what it does not, audit-ready records, and a ninety-day roadmap.
What makes this course different
• It is current. The Digital Omnibus on AI entered into force on 27 July 2026 and changed the deadlines. Material written before that is wrong, and a lot of it is still on sale.
• It corrects the claims people repeat. An ISO 42001 certificate confers no presumption of conformity. Social scoring is not restricted to public authorities. Most Annex III systems self-assess with no notified body. Claiming the Article 6(3) exemption does not remove your registration duty.
• It connects the regulation to work you already do - asset registers, change control, incident runbooks, procurement questionnaires - rather than proposing a parallel governance apparatus.
• Every section ends with an exercise on your own environment, and a defined test of whether you did it properly.
This course contains the use of AI.
