AutoForm Assembly R26 is an advanced engineering software solution developed by AutoForm Engineering GmbH for simulating, analyzing, and validating Body-in-White (BiW) assembly processes. Designed for automotive manufacturing engineers, it helps evaluate alternative part and assembly designs, investigate dimensional deviations, and identify effective corrective measures before production begins. By improving visibility into assembly behavior, the software supports more accurate process planning and efficient engineering decisions.

Software Overview
AutoForm Assembly supports the BiW assembly process chain, from early feasibility studies and process engineering to production. Its simulation capabilities help engineers understand how manufacturing operations influence dimensional accuracy and assess potential issues before they affect production.
Version R26 introduces enhancements for welding simulation, measured subassembly integration, CAD-based Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), and assembly setup. These capabilities are designed to improve simulation realism, preserve engineering design intent, and simplify the adaptation of existing assemblies to new vehicle projects.
Key Features
  • BiW assembly process simulation for automotive manufacturing and engineering.
  • New arc welding model for simulating MIG/MAG welding processes.
  • Evaluation of welding heat input, thermal loads, and resulting dimensional deviations.
  • Integration of measured subassembly geometry into assembly simulations.
  • CAD-based GD&T information incorporated into the simulation workflow.
  • Automatic interpretation of GD&T definitions for setup and evaluation.
  • New mirroring and translation options for ASM files.
  • Reuse and adaptation of existing subassemblies for new vehicle projects.
  • Analysis of dimensional deviations and support for identifying their root causes.
  • Evaluation of alternative part designs and assembly process configurations.
What's New in AutoForm Assembly R26
Improved MIG/MAG Welding Simulation
R26 introduces an arc welding model for MIG/MAG processes. Because these processes generate higher heat input than laser welding, they can create larger heat-affected zones and greater thermal distortion. The software uses key process parameters to determine effective heat input and thermal loads, helping engineers predict welding-related dimensional changes and optimize joining processes.
Measured Subassembly Integration
Users can incorporate measured geometry from scanned subassemblies into their simulations. This allows the assembly process model to reflect the actual geometry of available prototypes, improving the realism and reliability of dimensional analysis.
CAD-Based GD&T Workflow
Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing information from CAD can be incorporated directly into the simulation process. Automatically interpreted GD&T definitions help preserve original design intent and connect engineering requirements with assembly validation and quality assessment.
Enhanced Assembly Setup and Reuse
New mirroring and translation options for ASM files help accelerate simulation setup. Existing subassemblies can also be imported into a new vehicle environment and positioned as required, with their definitions automatically updated to accommodate the new design.
Benefits for Automotive Engineering
  • Identify potential assembly problems before production starts.
  • Understand the influence of welding operations on dimensional accuracy.
  • Use measured prototype geometry for more representative simulations.
  • Validate assemblies against defined engineering requirements.
  • Reduce repetitive setup work by reusing existing subassemblies.
  • Compare alternative manufacturing approaches and support informed engineering decisions.
