Requirements
There are no formal prerequisites for this course. This course is designed for current or former service members who are transitioning into civilian work or who have already transitioned and want more clarity about how civilian systems operate. You do not need management experience, corporate experience, or prior training in leadership or career development. No special tools or software are required. An openness to reflection and self observation will be helpful, but nothing in this course requires journaling, writing, or sharing unless you choose to do so. This course is suitable for learners at any stage of their transition, including those who feel unsure, frustrated, or simply curious about why things feel different.
Description This course contains the use of artificial intelligence to aid in creating video scripts based on existing content created by the course instructor.
Military transition involves more than finding a civilian job.
A lot of military-to-civilian transition support focuses on resumes, interviews, benefits, and translating military experience. Those things matter. But starting a civilian career doesn't necessarily prepare you for a workplace that operates very differently from the system you spent years learning to navigate.
Civilian workplace culture can feel a little like arriving in a foreign country. You already know how to work, lead, and solve problems. What you may not know yet are the local rules.
Authority may be informal. Expectations aren't always stated clearly. Even military strengths you've relied on for years, like ownership, discipline, direct communication, intuition, and initiative, can get reactions you weren't expecting.
We'll look at how to read civilian workplace culture and recognize the context clues that aren't always explained. You'll learn how to navigate unspoken expectations, communicate effectively, and figure out where your strengths may need to adjust to work well in a different environment.
This course focuses on the part of transition that often gets missed.
You'll learn how to:
- Read civilian workplace culture and recognize context clues that aren't always explained
- Navigate unspoken expectations and communicate effectively
- Adapt your military strengths without losing what makes them valuable
- Make sense of changes in identity, confidence, belonging, motivation, and progress
Throughout the course, realistic scenarios, reflection exercises, worksheets, and recalibration prompts will help you connect what you're learning to your own transition.
This course is designed for transitioning service members and veterans, whether you're preparing for civilian work or you're already there and still wondering why parts of the civilian workplace feel harder to read than you expected.
Who this course is for
This course is for current or former military service members who are transitioning into civilian work or who have already transitioned and feel like something still does not quite fit. It is especially valuable for people who are competent, capable, and motivated, but find themselves questioning their confidence, second guessing decisions, or feeling out of sync in civilian workplaces despite doing everything "right."
This course is a good fit if you: Miss the clarity and structure of military systems Feel uneasy navigating ambiguity, informal power, or unspoken expectations Want to translate your strengths without burning out or proving yourself constantly Are looking for clarity and sustainability, not quick fixes or motivational hype
This course is not focused on resumes, interviews, or job placement. Instead, it helps you understand how civilian systems actually work and how to operate within them with confidence, intention, and respect for who you already are. If you are looking for a thoughtful, experience grounded approach to transition that does not ask you to erase your past, this course was designed for you.
