Why Choose GEOVIA Surpac
GEOVIA Surpac brings geological modeling, mine design, and engineering functions together in a single specialized application. Its comprehensive toolset supports mining professionals who need to manage geological information, construct complex models, and prepare practical mine development plans.
The software's 3D visualization, automated modeling operations, and customizable workflows provide flexibility for different mining projects. Its integration with Python also creates additional opportunities to automate repetitive tasks and connect Surpac operations with external Python libraries.
What's New
GEOVIA Surpac 2026 R2 (Build 7.9.44804.2) introduces improvements across geology, engineering, and automation.
Geology
Grade-Dependent Improvements to Search Parameters
The BM FILL OK and BM FILL INVERSE functions now support grade-capped values on the Grade Dependent tab of the Search Parameters form. These values can limit user-defined grade ranges and influence search results according to item grades. Grade-capped values must remain between the Grade From and Grade To values of the corresponding range.
Valid Geometry Generation with the Shrink-Wrap Method
A new TRISOLATION SHRINK WRAP (TSW) function is available under Solids > Edit Trisolation > Trisolation Shrink Wrap. The same option can also be selected from the Mesher Mode list when using CLOUD 3D MESH (PCM). It applies an advanced shrink-wrap algorithm to generate manifold surfaces around existing vertices. The function supports both point cloud and triangle datasets, producing clean, watertight geometry for subsequent modeling and analysis.
Enhanced Solid and Surface Intersection Operations
Several trisolation operations have been improved to use the Dassault Systèmes (DS) library for solid and surface intersections:
  • TRISOLATION 3DM/3DM INTERSECT
  • TRISOLATION 3DM/3DM UNION
  • TRISOLATION 3DM/3DM OUTERSECT
  • TRISOLATION 3DM/DTM ABOVE
  • TRISOLATION 3DM/DTM BELOW
  • TRISOLATION FILE 3DM/3DM INTERSECT
  • TRISOLATION FILE 3DM/3DM UNION
  • TRISOLATION FILE 3DM/3DM OUTERSECT
  • TRISOLATION FILE 3DM/DTM ABOVE
  • TRISOLATION FILE 3DM/DTM BELOW
A new Quick Repair option allows minor repairs when an intersection operation produces invalid solids. The Solids Intersection Library field on the Applications tab also provides a choice between Legacy and DS libraries. Legacy maintains the previous intersection behavior, while DS uses the newer method, which can deliver improved results.
Constraint Engine Integration with Block Model Reblocking
The reblocking engine now focuses on relevant regions of a block model, reducing the number of block chunks that need to be processed and improving performance, particularly with large models. A new Constraint option in the Reblock tab of BM CONVERTER allows reblocking to be limited to chunks that satisfy specified constraints.
The MemorySafetyFactor field in defaults.ssi can be adjusted to control the number of chunks processed and manage memory usage. The recommendation is to initially leave this field blank so the software can determine an appropriate value based on available system memory.
Block Model Constraint Compatibility After Renaming
Constraint files created using BM MAKE CONSTRAINT remain compatible after the associated block model (.mdl) is renamed. Users can rename the block model through File > Save > Block Model without needing to recreate the constraint files.
CGAL Library Integration
The CLOUD 2D MESH function now uses the CGAL library for point cloud meshing. This integration improves mesh quality and stability, supporting more accurate surface generation from complex point cloud datasets.
Topographic Ponding Analysis
The new TRISOLATION CATCHMENT POND DETECTOR function identifies depressions in terrain data. Users can define a minimum depth threshold for detecting ponds and specify the resolution through mesh sampling density.
The function generates an output layer containing pond boundaries with the suffix "_boundary". When Output as Surface is enabled, an additional layer containing the pond surface is created with the suffix "_surface". The function is accessible through Surfaces > Advanced Option > Trisolation Catchment Pond Detector.
Graphics-Based Spatial Intersections
High-performance graphics-based functions, including TRISOLATION CLIP STRING INSIDE and TRISOLATION CLIP STRING OUTSIDE, can now perform spatial intersections between solid mesh geometries and strings. This is useful when working with geological solids such as ore bodies, pit shells, and stopes alongside drillholes or survey strings. Users can select a trisolation solid and a target string directly in the Graphics window to perform precision clipping while maintaining data integrity.
Engineering
Improved Economic Profile Form
A redesigned economic profile form simplifies the entry of grade names and related economic information for the following functions:
  • PRODUCTION SCHEDULER
  • BHOD OPEN
  • BUILD SLICE FILE
  • DTF OPEN
  • FOOTPRINT FINDER
  • SIC OPEN
  • SLUSHER MODULE
Improved Pit Design Workflow
The new MINE DESIGN PANEL OPEN function provides a project-based environment for configuring and saving pit design parameters. Users can create a new pit design project or load an existing one, define pit and ramp parameters in a consolidated interface, and access Surpac digitization commands.
The panel also supports automatic creation of initial toes or crests, ramp insertion, and pit expansion based on bench height and berm width. Design progress can be saved and reopened for continued work. The feature is accessible through Design > Pit Design > Launch Pit Design.
Short Interval Control Validation and Warnings
The SIC OPEN function now displays warning messages when buckets are missing, helping users identify missing information during short interval control workflows.
Tools and Automation
Record Macros as Python Scripts
The MACRO RECORD START (MACR) function can now record macros as Python scripts. Generated scripts use the new Surpac Python extension (surpy), which provides Python functions for executing Surpac commands.
This integration makes it easier to automate workflows using Python and take advantage of its programming features and external libraries. Before running scripts that use the new extension, users must install the Surpac Python Runtime in their local Surpac installation and enable the embedded Python environment through Customise > Default Preferences > Macro Settings > Use Embedded Python Environment.
System Requirements
- Operating System: Windows. The source does not specify a particular Windows version.
- Architecture: x64.
