Scope, classify, document and CE-mark products with digital elements - and meet the CRA reporting clock
What you'll learn
⚡ Decide whether your product is in scope of the EU Cyber Resilience Act and classify it correctly
⚡ Meet the Annex I essential requirements and vulnerability handling duties in a real product
⚡ Run a CRA-grade risk assessment and assemble the Annex VII technical documentation behind it
⚡ Choose a conformity assessment route, apply CE marking and draft the EU Declaration of Conformity
⚡ Operate the 24-hour, 72-hour and final reporting workflow for exploited vulnerabilities and severe incidents
Requirements
❗ Basic familiarity with how software or connected hardware products are built and shipped
❗ No legal background needed - every article and annex is explained in plain English
Description
"This course contains the use of artificial intelligence."
Regulation (EU) 2024/2847 - the Cyber Resilience Act - entered into force on 10 December 2024 and applies in full on 11 December 2027, with vulnerability and incident reporting obligations starting on 11 September 2026. If you place hardware or software on the EU market, it changes what you have to build, document and report.
This course is implementation guidance for engineers, not a legal lecture. You start by deciding whether your product is a "product with digital elements" at all, then classify it across the four tiers that drive everything downstream: default, Annex III Class I, Annex III Class II, and Annex IV critical.
From there you work through the Annex I essential requirements line by line - secure by design, no known exploitable vulnerabilities at release, secure default configuration, encryption, integrity, attack surface reduction, on-device logging, and secure update with rollback - and the Part II vulnerability handling duties, including coordinated disclosure and free security updates.
You then build the evidence: a cybersecurity risk assessment that holds up, threat models and abuse cases, the Annex VII technical documentation, and a support period you can defend. Conformity assessment is covered route by route - Module A internal control, Module B and C EU-type examination, Module H full quality assurance, European certification schemes and notified bodies - through CE marking and the EU Declaration of Conformity in Annex V.
Two areas get their own deep treatment: the 24-hour early warning, 72-hour notification and final reports through the single reporting platform and CSIRTs, and supply chain work - due diligence on third-party components, SBOMs in SPDX and CycloneDX, automation in CI, and what to do when an upstream component goes unmaintained.
Every section ends in a lab. The course closes with a capstone that takes one product from scope decision to signed declaration, plus a realistic timeline to December 2027 and a programme design that scales across a product portfolio. able templates accompany each stage.
The material is vendor-neutral and is implementation guidance, not legal advice.
Who this course is for
