In Session Audio Dyad: Hand Pan Drums is a virtual percussion instrument for Native Instruments Kontakt, designed to bring expressive hand pan performances into music production. It combines detailed hand pan recordings with an innovative performance engine that helps composers create natural-sounding melodies, rhythms, and percussion parts without manually programming every note.
At the center of the instrument is the Dyad Engine, which uses separate left-hand and right-hand pattern players to recreate the coordinated movements of an experienced hand pan performer. Its automatic playback system handles pitched notes, percussive hits, articulation changes, swing, humanization, and micro-rhythms, making it easier to build expressive performances from a single keyboard.
Software Overview
Dyad: Hand Pan Drums is built around a comprehensive sample library and a dual-hand performance system. Each drum includes a large collection of samples covering different hit types, velocity levels, and round-robin variations. This detailed recording approach helps preserve the natural dynamics and subtle differences of real hand pan playing.
The Dyad Engine provides separate pattern players for the left and right hands, allowing users to create coordinated rhythmic performances. Patterns can be selected or customized, while articulation switching and humanization features add variation to the resulting performances. Users can also play the hand pans directly from a keyboard instead of relying on the automatic pattern system.
Beyond the core percussion sounds, the instrument includes drones, natural ambience, and additional instruments for building atmospheric arrangements. These layers can add harmonic depth, environmental textures, and complementary sounds to hand pan compositions.
