Description
This course contains the use of artificial intelligence. It was used to partially generate the thumbnail. A certificate against ISO/IEC 42001 does not say your AI system is safe, unbiased, or accurate. It says something narrower and, for anyone signing a contract or answering a regulator, far more useful: that your organization runs a working system for deciding what AI it builds or uses, for finding out what could go wrong, and for doing something about it.
Understanding that distinction is what separates a successful implementation from three months spent producing the wrong evidence.
This course takes you from the standard to a certifiable AI management system. Published in December 2023, ISO/IEC 42001 is the first international AI governance standard an organization can actually be certified against, and procurement departments have started asking for it by name.
You will learn the anatomy of the standard, how your role as provider, developer, or user determines what applies to you, and how to define a scope you can defend in an audit room. You will write an AI policy that meets minimum content requirements, assign roles and responsibilities, and set up channels for raising concerns.
The course covers risk in depth: setting criteria before you assess anything, running a process that repeats consistently, performing the mandatory Annex A comparison during treatment, and conducting impact assessments covering individuals, groups, and society in line with ISO/IEC 42005.
You will work through all 38 Annex A controls across nine groups, build your Statement of Applicability, and learn how to defend exclusions when an auditor challenges them. You will apply life cycle requirements covering responsible development, verification and validation gates, operational monitoring, technical documentation, event logs, and full data governance from acquisition through provenance and preparation.
Additional sections address the information users must receive, external reporting and incidents, intended use and human oversight, and how responsibility is allocated across suppliers and customers.
The course closes with evaluation and certification: monitoring and management review, internal audit programmes and sampling, nonconformity and root cause analysis, and exactly what happens in Stage 1 and Stage 2 under ISO/IEC 42006.
No prior ISO experience required. Just the responsibility of building AI governance that stands up to an auditor.
