Metric Halo MB Howies 179 is an audio compressor/limiter plugin based on the NTP 179-120 units used by mastering engineer Howie Weinberg throughout his career. The plugin recreates the dynamic response, tonal character, saturation, and distortion behavior of Howie's own hardware units.
Developed with Howie Weinberg, the plugin reflects his experience from more than 40 years of mastering work across a wide range of musical genres. Its streamlined interface focuses on the settings and controls needed to shape dynamics while retaining the character associated with the original analog processors.
Howie's 179 is designed for producers, musicians, mixing engineers, and mastering engineers who need additional weight, smoothness, and cohesion in their productions. As an in-the-box processor, it also provides recallability and allows the processing to be used beyond the limitations of a fixed stereo hardware pair.​

Software OverviewMetric Halo MB Howies 179 recreates the sonic behavior of Howie Weinberg's pair of NTP 179-120 compressor/limiters. The processing is modeled around the dynamics response and analog characteristics of the specific hardware units, including their saturation and distortion behavior.
The plugin combines the character of the modeled hardware with controls suited to software-based production. This makes it possible to apply the compressor/limiter directly within a digital audio workflow while retaining project recall and flexible use across productions.
Howie Weinberg has used the NTP 179-120 on more than 2,000 mastering projects, including 76 projects nominated for Grammy Awards and 20 Grammy-winning projects.
